Merlin just quoted someone, I think it was Alex Lindsey, on his phone
policy...
"Anyone who would call me on the phone, would know me well enough to know,
not to call me on the phone..."
I agree wholeheartedly with that.
I'm still kind of struggling with ideas for posts for my WordPress blog (kivus.com or johnkivus.com). Here are a couple I'm thinking of though:
- Why big companies would like government healthcare
- It's not the association it's the ideology
There was another one I can't seem to remember right now.
Well, I managed to make one of my personal goals already, but two of my
other ones are currently struggling...namely, (1) Make 3 Wordpress (
kivus.com, johnkivus.com) postings this period and (2) writing 4 paragraphs
in my biography.
My wordpress posting topics at the moment include:
(1) Money in politics (as a spin off from Tom DeLay's book)
(2) Some golf anncedotes
...
I know I had more, but I can't remember them at the moment...I hope they
come back to me....
My biography paragraphs are probably:
(1) End of High School, Trip to Charlotte to Look at Colleges
(2) Time in Charlotte
(3) Moving to Raleigh
...
That's all I got so far...
In order to meet me personal goals for this period (a period that ends at
midnight today), I have to do another wordpress posting for kivus.com. (I
also have to read a chapter and a half in Tom Delay's book, but that's
neither here nor there...). I'm struggling to find a topic, but I'm thinking
of something dealing with anti-american elements (as I mentioned in a
previous posting). Here's a sample of what I'm thinking:
Some of the more disturbing aspects of the American Left are certain
behavoirs that appear almost anti-American, and if not Anti-American, than
definitely opposed to American's position as a the world's dominate super
power. Two recent examples seem to illustrate this point: (1) the reaction
to the military's actions regarding Pat Tilman's death and (2) the full
court press currently being executed over the issue of alleged man-made
global warming.
...(Fill in detailed Paragraphs here)
Though I used the above two examples as a way to illustrate a class of
behavior from the American Left, they are clearly not a comprehensive
ennumeration of actions that the Left employs. Further examples such a moral
relativism between America and terrorist elements, demanding withdrawal from
Iraq (where America has a clear interest) while demanding action be taken in
Darfur (where America has no clear interest (outside of preventing genocide,
something which should not be dismissed)), and using America's possession of
nuclear weapons as justification for rogue nations like North Korea and Iran
also having said weapons. All of these examples show a disturbing trend of
anti-Americanism found within the American Left, and are prime examples of
why the Left cannot be trusted with our foreign policy or our national
security.
I think that's a good start, we'll see if I can develop it more from there.
UPDATE: Finished this post: http://johnkivus.com/2007/04/30/anti-americanism-and-the-american-left/ or http://www.kivus.com/2007/04/30/anti-americanism-and-the-american-left/
So, I was trying to thinking of something post over at kivus.com and I think
I might go with something dealing with anti-american elements in issues
involving the military and the environmental movement. Haven't finalized it
yet, but that's where I'm leaning.
Working on my Bio for my About Page on WordPress (
http://kivus.wordpress.com/about/). Here's a first draft of my first
paragraph:
I was born in Maine on the last day of September in 1980. Maine was, and
remains today, a beautiful state to live in, though it took me leaving the
state to realize it. From the rocky coasts of Kennebunkport, to the
mountains on Mount Desert Island, there was a lot of gorgeous areas that I
never really appreciated. Still, those first years of my life provided me
with a number of chances to develop academically and athletically (maybe not
so much socially) and I look back at them fondly, for the most part.
I think it still needs some work, but thank might be good enough to put up
at the beginning of the page.
[UPDATED: I pasted my first draft into my "About" page]
Just got back from my interview at NCR. I think things went pretty well. Not
the most grueling technical interview, but I think they did a good overview
of things to see if I did actually have a technical background or now. I
guess the question is whether or not they think I'd be a good fit in their
organization (i.e. did I come across as "cocky" like I have in the past.) I
did make an effort to turn down some of my "aggressiveness" so we'll see how
that works.
I'm having trouble figuring out what should be my next WordPress posting...I
think I made a good decision to expand the blog from simply political type
things to more technology / web related issues as well as some personal type
things. Because of that decision on direction, I'm having trouble deciding
what to post on next. I'm leaning towards something on the President of
NetApp talk I saw the other week, dealing with things that can help make a
company or a person be successful.
I should have immediately wrote down the 6 things he said would be helpful,
but here is what I can remember: attitude, accountability (I think he
actually used a "C" word here, but I can't remember, dealing with
challenges, setting goals,...and that's really all I can remember. I know
there are some more. At this point I guess I'd just go with attitude and
goal setting, more focusing on the goal setting aspect of things, because
that's something I'm actually working on.
One positive thing about working as a software engineer, is you get to see
people of people rocking khaki pants and big white sneakers...good time,
good times. Also, I wonder if the percentage of male software engineers with
"long" hair is higher than the percentage of males with long hair in the
general population.
