It was a solid weekend for the USA Women's softball team. After watching them play all weekend, it angers me even more that next year's Olympics will be the last that has softball as event. I'm not sure what will happen to the sports after that but hopefully some form of world wide competition will remain. Until then though, I'm going to continue watching Cat and the ladies of the red, white & blue dominate teams from around the world.
On a side note, the call that ended the game last night was terrible. I don't care what the rule says, you don't end a game that way, you just don't. It was one of those "inside softball' type rules that most people watching at home don't know and don't care about. The umpires that made that call should take a good, hard look in the mirror and remember that fans travel from all over the world to see these young women play softball not to watch the umpires make spectacles of themselves.
Congratulations to the Wildcats on their achievement.
On a related note, I started posting at the beginning of this tournament, since this is really the last class of girls I followed when I was in school. With Lowe, Schutzler, (and last year...Cat Osterman) out of the college game, most of my ties to the sport have been severed and with the Olympics not having softball anymore, I'm not sure how up I'll stay on it. Keeping that in mind, it was an excellent championship series...unless you're a Lady Vols fan.
Caitlin Lowe and the Arizona Wildcats managed to hold back the Lady Vols offense and ended up with a 1-0 win in 10 innings of softball. Tying the series at 1-1, Lowe's Wildcats will face Schutzler's Vols tomorrow in a 1 game battle for the national title.
Tough game for the Wildcats last night as Monica Abbott was dominant in the circle as the Lady Vols won 3-0.
On a side note, my initial post on the series is climbing up the Google ranks, making Page 1 and Page 3 depending on your search terms.
Well, after a few weeks of posts, del.icio.us links, etc...kivus.com is back on top for the Google results for "kivus". Luckily, johnkivus.com is still on top for Google results for "john kivus".
In other news my Mammoth pizza post is 3rd & 4th for "best pizza durham nc" and 5th for "best pizza raleigh nc" but my "Catiln Lowe / Lindsay Schutzler" post isn't showing up on the ranking at all.
