Just finished up my weekly (though sometimes a little late...) review of the _1/2 Hour News Hour_. You can read it at either kivus.com or johnkivus.com.
I recently got a comment for posting the YouTube Video of Al Gore's 1992 speech where he explains the threat Iraq and Saddam Hussein are to America and the world. Since I liked my reply, I decided to repost it at kivus.com and johnkivus.com
With this, I'll all caught up on reviewing the 1/2 Hour News Hour. As always, you can read the review at either kivus.com or johnkivus.com.
Both sites include the video for Dennis Miller's _The Buck Starts Here_
So, I bought the Moleskine to (1) allow me to have a good place to take my notes and (2) to try and look "cool." Well, I think I've accomplished (1) and (2), but the side effect is that I've been slacking on posting, because I have simply been thinking "Well, I wrote it in my Moleskine, I can do the full post later.
Hopefully, I can now start to catch up...
My review of the 6/03/07 showing of the 1/2 Hour News Hour can be read at either kivus.com or johnkivus.com
Some of the more positive news coming out of Washington today is that the
Senate Immigration is either "dead" or "near death" depending on what news
source you read. It's still amazing to me that through this time one of the
key issues about the bill is not widely discussed, namely, that the "fines",
"back taxes", "having to return home" and other provisions that are supposed
to be part of the "penalty" that illegal immigrants pay, are only required
if the immigrants seek citizenship. As Rush as tried to point out on
numerous occasions, the second the President signs this bill, all these
illegal immigrants are legal. It's only if they wish to be come citizens
that they are required to go through the various "penalties."
In just one example of lunacy surrounding this issue, as I was a finishing
lunch today, it was being reported that an amendment to the bill that would
ask that "Current Law Be Enforced" was heading towards defeat. An amendment
to enforce the laws gets defeated? That's what a Congress controlled by the
Democrat Party buys you.
"All our big issues today, immigration, health care, the war on terror, all
require big actions...by big government..."
He also called Federalism an "antique vision."
It's disappointing that a media figure like Fineman would resort to calling
the system by which this country is founded an "antique vision." It's
disappointing, but not surprising.
So I've got one paragraph for this post pretty much done (posted that
yesterday), I plan on writing 1 paragraph on NewsMax's article dealing with
how "media watchdog" group are trying to target conservative talk radio, and
one paragraph on Algore's book and his latest statements concerning the
fairness doctrine. That leaves an intro and a conclusion to tie everything
together.
Here's what I'm thinking...
"The Left's favorite Argument is there is no argument." Thomas Sowell
started a recent column with this statement, a statement that rings true in
both the Left's current strategy and what appears to be one of the Left's
current primary goals: the stifling of the free flow of ideas through the
use of tools such as government and political correctness. Sowell's column
in particular discussed the usage of this tactic in regards to man-made
Global Warming, one example of a situation where the Left tries to prevent
debate by tossing out things like a "consensus" of scientists agree on it or
saying that we can't afford to debate the issues because of the critical
window we're in concerning the future of the planet. Futher discussion of
Algore's "reason" will occur later, in addition to a discussion of how the
Left is trying to stifle free speech on talk radio via "political
correctness" and a current example of their tactics in action, i.e.
discussion on the latest immigration "compromise."
..
The above examples are far from of a full enumeration of the way the Left is
trying to stifle the free flow of ideas, but merely a small taste of the
tactics they're employing to try and make their way of thinking the only
"acceptable" way of thinking. Thankfully there are forums like Talk Radio
that allow some of the propaganda spouted from the Democrat Party to be
countered, however, as time goes on, the Left's efforts to quash those
forums will only intensify and it will be up to people who truly value the
freedom of speech to stand athwart their efforts and yell Stop!
I plan on using this soon: "The political left's favorite argument is that
there is no argument." - Thomas Sowell

I'm working on a WordPress post, probably titled "Stalin would be proud"
about the way the Democrat Party and the Left try to utilized things like
political correctness to stifle the free expression of ideas. Here's one of
the paragraph, in draft form:
A current example of the Left trying to stifle free discussion and debate
has arisen around the latest attempts at a "comprehensive immigration bill."
The latest "comprehensive" bill (deemed by Rush Limbaugh as the
"Comprehensive Destroy the Republican Party Act of 2007") has been met with
criticism from all sides of the political spectrum. The acts by the bills
"defenders" however are focussed primarily on those on the Right who oppose
the bill (a group that includes William F. Buckley and George Will) labeling
people who have legitimate issues with the bills as "nativists",
"protectionists" and, of course, "racists". Instead of trying to opening
debate why they feel the Immigration bill is not purely an amnesty for those
who have entered the country illegal, the bill's defenders lob ad hominem
insults at people who question the bill's authenticity, hoping that
accusations of racism will be enough to keep those opposed to the bill from
freely voicing their opinion.
